Milanese “make-over”

A small flat for an Italian businessman whose request was to create a place in which he could feel at home within his rental. In this case we could not work with new, structural layouts so the entire project is a customized “make – over” of the existing space using colour and furniture, both new and old. Some exclusively designed furniture pieces mixed with Ikea products together with bold feature walls and accent colours were key to creating a personalized feeling in an otherwise anonymous apartment.

Personal items such as the beautifully aged Thonet chairs and the vintage chairs bought online and re-upholstered helped give a lived-in look to the flat. We wanted to avoid the “all new” effect to focus instead on a creating a welcoming home for the owner and guests alike. The play on circular shapes and mirrors both enlarges the rather narrow dining room as well as create an unexpected perspective to the flat, giving it a touch of playfulness.
